Basic Concepts
What is modeling? How are managerial decisions made based on Electrical Power System Analytical Results? What is Symmetrical Components and what is it used for? How are assumptions made and what are the consequences of these assumptions? Explain the procedure for fault analysis and use an example of an unbalanced fault to illustrate this procedure. How would you develop a software for Load Flow analysis using the Newton Raphson method. Illustrate your work with a flow chart. Develop the Newton Raphson iterative method of Load Flow Analysis. Carry out a comparative analysis between the Newton Raphson iterative method and the Gauss Seidel Method and explain under what condition each method is preferred. How is noise accounted for in State Estimation in the Electrical Power System?
Application
What is generation mix? What is the national grid. The power utility in the country is being privatized. What are the technical challenges associated with this exercise. How can you ensure that Power delivery is optimized? What measures must be put in place to ensure that the industry is properly regulated. Make a workable proposal for a privatized Electrical Power System. How would this system work? How would you ensure that the entire system is properly managed? How would Electrical Power be produced and delivered to the intended users? How would your knowledge of this course help you in your work? What is the relevance of Electrical Power Systems Analysis in all this? How can you monitor the quality of Electrical Energy being produced and delivered by each Electrical Power Utility Company. What tariff options do you propose and why? How can a fair and sustainable tariff structure be achieved? Maintenance is important for effective Electrical Power Delivery.  What are distributed parameters? Develop the model of a long line.
Calculations
What is the difference between the first swing and the multi swing transient stability problems? How are they tackled analytically? Develop the swing equation. What is the swing equation and what is it used for? What is the critical clearing angle and what is its relevance? What is the relationship between the critical clearing angle and the critical clearing time?
The transmission line in the figure below is 200km long and a 132kV line of the phase symmetric type. Given the data below, determine the voltage at Bus 2 given that R = 0.72 Ω/km, ωL=0.527Ω/km, 1/ωC = 0.425MΩ/km
